MarketplaceFacebook added the Facebook marketplace back in 2007 but nothing really happened with it. In fact, I didn’t know about the Marketplace will just a few days ago when I got an update to Facebook that had the Marketplace placed predominantly at the bottom of the Facebook App. I was surprised when I did a search for Facebook Marketplace and found out how old it really was.

There have already been several different iteratin of the Market place since It became availibleIf you look on Facebook Groups one of the biggest uses you will find is a trading post. That is, people sell items that are no longer needed. If a person has a service they are offering they can also post it to this selling group.

About 6 months ago Facebook added the option for selling groups. Besides, the talk you can add prices and a description of the product.

Facebook has decided to up their selling a game and have opened up Marketplace. This is the Central Hub for all things being sold on Facebook. You can find odd knickknacks that need to be fixed up to I even saw a Lamborghini Aventador For sale . Lots of items are already being posted and you can post your goods and services too.

What do you need to know?

Yep you can even sell a Lamborghini son Facebook
Yours for only a cool $1,000,000

At the moment you can only post to the marketplace through your mobile app. I haven’t been able to find a way to post the Desktop version. If I had to guess as to why. I would say that it is because it opens the Marketplace up to bots. These bots might start spamming and placing unwanted ads instead of the goods by the real users.

There is no way to save nor share the sales items you want to remember. This is a big feature that is missing from the new Marketplace section. I have found a few things already that I would like to send to people I know that are looking for something specific. I have not been able to because of the lack of a share button.

You are not dedicated to a specific area. If you are in Elk City, OK and you want to look at what is being sold in Amarillo you can change the city. Now in the mobile version, you have to enter the zip code. you are not able to enter a city name. Hopefully, that will change in the very near future. so that people are able to jump from city to city a little easier. Even though you can expand your range up to 100 miles. There are times when those of us in the Texas Panhandle and Western Oklahoma have to drive over 100 miles to get to a city.

Looking at other categories you might be interested in is a challenge too. You have to search for the desired category at the moment.

  • Arts and Crafts

How to use Marketplace.

To sell you service or merchandise you will need to use your mobile phone.

  1. You will first take a picture of the product or of your logo
  2. .You will then be asked for a title.
  3. Then you will have the opportunity to place your description of your service. Know that you can’t do any formatting so it can easily become a huge block of text. Also, if you are trying to put a link in your description will not be hot linkable. So it will just be the URL as plain text.
  4. Then you will need to choose your price that is how even much you want to place 0 for free.
  5. Enter the location that you want to sell to and enter your category.

There you have it. You will have entered your product to be sold through Facebook’s Marketplace.

Have you been selling through the marketplace? What do you think of it?

To the second half of the question. The Marketplace is located at http://www.facebook.com/marketplace. Now I share that but it looks like the Facebook marketplace isn’t open for everyone like I originally thought. I discovered the limitation a couple of weeks ago. I had been getting people at random times saying they were not able to get Facebook Marketplace to show up. I at first thought it was a matter of the app not being updated, but then my wife was looking for something and I suggested the Marketplace and she was running into the same problem. After a day of searching through the nonexistent help on facebook I can only ascertain that it is a feature they are slowly rolling out like they did with Facebook Live.
It is frustrating as all get out I understand and I am sorry. I would say send a Facebook a problem report. Over on the far right-hand side, there is a drop-down arrow. It will look like this.
      Facebook Dropdown arrow
Click the Upsidedown triangle and you should see Report a Problem. If by some chance you do not see Report a Problem. Choose Help in the dropdown and then you will see Report a Problem. Here you can let Facebook know that you are wanting to use the Marketplace.
Now the response time can be anywhere. They are servicing 1.6 billion users so. If you get some news about the problem let me know so that we can share it with the world.

On the Mobile app, across the top, you will see 4 icons or tabs. You have Sell, Categories, Search, Your Item.
      The top tabs
Click on the Your Items and You will see a list of all your items you have sold. From here you can tap the Mark as Sold button.

Well, Sandy, I’ve looked and looked for a solution to your problem and I have not found anything. I have found people complaining about getting the button or tab on the side but nothing that really explains the Marketplace on Facebooks page. Facebook mentions it in passing in about 5 articles and that is it.

I am also Hogtied in that I don’t have an iPad. The Wife uses an Android powered tablet. I looked for the Marketplace on here and it is not found in the app. I then searched to see if her app was up to date and found out it was not so after updating it I found out that the tab was still not there but it could be that the app is still not new enough.

My wife has a very old android tablet it is facebook for android app version 4.0 if that tells you anything of the age.
So at this time I will keep looking for a solution but it looks like the Facebook Marketplace is only for phones and desktops. I’m disappointed about that, but that is what everything points to. I even tried going to http://www.facebook.com/marketplace on the tablet browser and it redirects to http://m.facebook.com/marketplace still no luck that page doesn’t exist. The only workaround I can think of is to try your tablet browser and request Desktop mode. it is not the best experience on a tablet but it is better than no experience at all.

Thanks for the info! After fruitless searching yours was the first one that mentioned that posting can only be done via the app. I was wondering why I couldn’t post on the desktop. Seems there should be a disclaimer at the top of the Marketplace page (Want to post? Head to the app!). Probably came up briefly when it was launched but I just clicked it away 🙂
